Denim: Week VI
A Promise.
Dear community,
We opted to delay the last 5 looks of the #30wears challenge by a week in light of the events surrounding George Floyd’s death and the nation wide movement that ensued. The unjust and deplorable death’s of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and countless other Black Americans have made it clear that we needed to stop and think about the world we live in versus the world we want to live in.
Black Lives Matter is extremely important. We have spent the last 2 weeks with heavy hearts listening to mother bravely share their fears regarding raising black sons. We have learned that to be an Anti-Racist is the ONLY option when it comes to protecting the lives of our Black friends, colleagues and neighbors. We realized, we have allowed media, corporations, and government to protect a world where white is regarded as neutral, and it was a tough, albeit important, pill to swallow realizing how comfortable we have just sat in it without pausing to examine or question it. To this later point, we have sat in shame and we firmly say, no more.
Black is Beautiful. At Studio SES, Sarah and our team pledges to make sure Black Designers are always represented on the styling racks (15% or more). We will work to amplify black voices, celebrate the contributions of Black Culture. We will work to hold our friends at publicity firms, within brands and at magazines accountable to better their organizations to be more equitable and will not work with those who allow a culture of discrimination and inequality to exist in their companies. Studio SES pledges to listen, show up, have hard conversations with our communities and do the work to learn what it really means to be a better friend and ally.
While we are a small company, we will be mighty, and we will start from within. It is with our whole hearts to this we pledge .
With love,
Sarah & Studio SES
